Saturday, My second Fantasmic! shift

I got a lift in with Dan and Jules to Disney U and returned my costume (trying on the Haunted Mansion costume for fun...) then headed into MK where I got a nice slushy lemonade and tried my first corn dog (corn nuggets are WAY better) and then headed to Studios. As I was leaving the park around 3pm I walked past day parade and the Mickey float had gotten stuck leaving the whole parade at a stand still and all the dancers had given up and stood in a group and the princesses had already waved to those around them and looked bored!
I went straight to costuming, where I managed to find an XXS unisex shirt that fitted much better than the small, and shorts (wooo!!) in a size 6 (needed a 4 or a 2 though as they fell down without my belt) and still no belts in a 26 so kept my gold buckle one. Its funny because in MK im a pant size 8, and shirt size small or xs max, whereas in studios all the sizes seem much bigger!
I tried on a park greeter costume too, much nicer than ours! and turquoise too! They had no lockers left but luckily my locker had not been cleared from Weds. I spoke to some girls in the same costume and walked to the break room with them to clock in, one has just started 6 months here from Manchester, lucky!!!
Best of all, once backstage we got on bikes and cycled to the break room!! Such a novelty you dont get that in MK, it was downhill too and sunny and sooo funny as me and Abi the other UK girl were dodgy on bikes! They didnt have handlebar brakes you just had to peddle backwards!
As this was a full 530-1130 shift we helped set up and walked the wheelchair ramp to check for debris and then we had a 30 min break and Scott thought I should get raingear so once again we got on a bike and this time cycled round the full remainder of the park, in the sun, getting paid to cycle behind Tower, and right by the water tower, Walt's plane and backlot tour was SO cool, and we had a good chat about rides that we didnt like the changes to (star tours...test track) and then i got raingear in a different pouch to MK (exciting stuff) and we went to the cafeteria (Take 5) to grab water and i got a chocolate bar called Muskateer = an english Milky Way yay! (as Milky Way here is UK Mars bar, annoying). We had our track talk at 7 and i was Ursula position (furthest section that seats last) and doesnt have too much to do. We then did our magic moment yay which involves picking a family to come in first, get free popcorn and as they walk we all stand in line and flick out light wands!! I also met a French guy my friend had been hanging out with which was cool. So this time I got to work BOTH shows and there were no medical emergencies woo!
I met loads of lovely CM's and guests (one guy walked past and shouted 'youre so beautiful') haha and I love all the music they play there, all classics remixed and sung by Jonas bros and Miley etc so I had a good dance! I also saw my friend Jess from PAC who came and took a photo with me. Before the show started they got people warmed up by doing quizs etc and one girl was also Emma from England! and then they did the 'flash wave' where everyone holds up something that flashes and the lights go out, very cool. I could also see some of the Epcot fireworks from where I stood and glimpsed the MK ones! One bit of the show I like is when the monkeys come out and i turned to see all the CMs with lightsticks swinging them and jumping up and down in time to the monkeys! I was in charge of the small disabled section at the top of ursula, and answered qs, and apart from one english woman making a scene about people not being disabled (oh the shame that she was english!!) it went great. In between shows I had to pan and broom and I have new respect for people working in cinemas, popcorn is a nightmare!!!
Then finally as I left I got to see an empty Studios, which was awesome!!! Overall, I LOVED it.
I got to bed about 2am and then was up at 8am to go to Trails End with Cherie (CMs get 40% off) at Fort Wilderness for breakfast! We got a bus to contemp, walked to MK and got a boat over to the Fort, we were the only people on it! The sun was shining, there was a nice breeze at the front of the boat, it was awesome. A real 'I am sooo happy right now' moment!
I had 3 rounds; loads of fruit and blueberry yoghurt, and OJ, water and hot chocolate, then the cooked round; 2 types of brek potato, smoked salmon, an eggs benedict pulled pork thingy (yum!) and breakfast pizza (meh). Then finally a choc chip mickey waffle and syrup, so full! and all for $15.
Then we hung out on the beach for a while, we were the only ones around and it did not feel like we were 5 mins from MK, but rather on a tropical island somewhere!!
Then in MK we got sorcerers cards (2 more, only 5 left now) and did some pin hunting including fishing for pins in Frontierland, the Duffy bear and the hat, and the pin stroller in town square that also had Mickey sat in it, wearing a pin lanyard!!
Right now I am packing to move into a hotel for a week with the boyf :D real holiday!!

Fantasmic!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday
Today we got up late and laid around for a while until our inspection (passed but no cookies this time...thanks Chinese girls!!!)
Then we headed to Studios, stopping for a Cachapa (sweetcorn and cheese thing) on the way! Jen and I took some photos around the park then I drew Pluto at the drawing class (they'd done Eeyore that morning damn)

We found costuming, and had a disaster with sizes, only 'small' shirts left no XS but they were unisex so down to my knees! and I think i may have ended up with mens trousers, too large and too short and no belts in my size (26) only 24 or 30! so I had to stick with my gold buckled one from MK rather than silver and then when we got to the breakroom we discovered we could have worn shorts, bum!
But we also tried on the ToT costume :D

We clocked in at the tiny breakroom after heading around the whole back of the park (it felt like) and went for our 'track talk' at 7.
HS is ALOT more laid back than MK You can walk anywhere in the park in any of the costumes, and we were all standing in groups in the street ('clumping') not allowed in MK! But the park is much smaller so you only get 3 mins 'walk time' not 12 (ie the time before you actual end of shift that you can clock out at), so its nice to know we've been thoroughly trained to higher standards, but was great to have the more chilled atmosphere of HS!
So there were about 30 CM's (cast members) at the talk, above the stands at the show. While we spoke the dragon was out and it appeared she had had a leak!! They were trying to clean it up and eventually this lead to the 9pm show being cancelled. So Jules and I spent the first two hours talking to guests on the street and controlling the BTGs! (brazilian tour groups...) Then the 1030 was happening so we went to our positions, mine as Dinner Package Mickey 2 or something, Dinner package is usually only 9pm (3 fanciest restaurants at HS allow you to pay some more money to get into reserved seating basically) but it was moved to the 1030. So I checked peoples green tickets and let them in and held a sign. It was mostly having to tell non-package people to keep moving cos they couldnt sit here! Only drama was a girl nearby from a BTG stood at the back about to throw up for ages but dont think she did.
Then we watched the first 10 mins and had to go clock out (shame). As i went to get Jules she grabbed me and seemed weird, it turned out she was upset... people were crowded behind me and a guy was sat in a wheelchair...it seems that just as the show started he'd had a seizure! She said all the people around him were panicking and sobbing and the CMs were running around asking where the housephone was which was scary as I imagined it'd be a well oiled machine like MK is! But the medics eventually came as we were leaving and I think the guy was OK! Scary.
So we ended up with a very eventful shift!!
We headed to get changed, dump our costumes and get the usually crowded, late E bus home but this time we were rewarded with a lovely coach!
It seems they also do a cool magic moment that didnt happen due to cancellation so fingers crossed it happens next time! Also found out that people refer to the passages on/off stage as 'mouse holes' haha. And it was cool to see a deserted HS!

Thursday

I was woken badly at 7am by a mixture of Jules' scream and huge thunder that sounded like the sky was literally cracking open right above us,  I mean ive never heard anything so mental!! and lightening too, very scary, think it was the effects of storm 'Dorian'. So I had a fitful few hours half-sleep then got up dressed and headed to Universal with Hannah, round 2. We got there at 1pm and went to Islands, on the Carosuessel and then got a PB cupcake yum!

Then we queued to get into the queue on Forbidden Journey in HP world, crazy busy, took 90 mins but we had fun taking photos through the castle. The dementors on the ride made me jump!!
We went to the restrooms after an moaning Myrtle was on the speakers haha then had lunch in the Three Broomsticks, UK food, the worlds smallest cornish pastys and a pretty average shepherds pie! and a Butterbeer obvs!!

Then we lined up to see Ollivanders where a guy got picked to find a wand and did some spells! Then once in the shop we tried on some cloaks and then explored the rest of HP world. After that I did Hulk by myself (front row!!) then went over to Universal.

We did Terminator 2 as I hadnt in ages and I love it. The stunt guy is also a Dapper Dan on Main Street...brill, couldnt be more contrasting. Then next was Transfomers single rider, i got front row at last and that ride is def growing on me! Then finally MIB because I LOVE that ride, Hannah always wins though damn.
We left the park and ate dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in CityWalk (worlds largest woop) where we shared the most amazing 'santa fe spring rolls' which werent like usual ones but more mexican style, and shared fajitas which were lovely but we were SO full, considering we'd just shared one person's meal. As we were leaving YMCA came on and all the staff did a routine!

Then we met Jules and Jen in Latin Quarter a club in Citywalk (the 'boardwalk' of Universal) with free entry and drinks for ladies, theyd already had a few and I felt out of place, being sober, not very dressed up and not Latino!! As we were like the only white people there and everyone was Salsa-ing. I was just not feeling it and wanted to go home. My drinks I got were hideously strong and i was sick of getting pushed around by people, mostly fat tarty girls, so I left and got a taxi home which was fine but expensive. So glad to get in bed though. Apparently the others stayed and got taught salsa by a (creeeeepy) guy who they met as I was leaving, and then went to the karaoke bar when jen sang. I think i would have preferred it if we'd gone to a different club as I heard good music as I was leaving.

Friday

This morning we sunbathed at Patterson, lovely, and I finished Jens book White Wedding I was reading, great trashy read, and then did some washing which was free because the nice laundry guy was fixing the rubbish pay machine.
Then Jules and I headed downtown for JASON DERULO yay!!!! We stopped for food in Paradiso 37, a lovely south american themed place where we sat outside by the lake, with views of the balloon, Saratoga Springs and the queue for JD forming by HoB. There's also a live singers (if a little average) which was nice. Very chilled. We shared mac n cheese bites with jalapeno dipping sauce, wasabi fries and truffle fries! (truffle were best) and I got a white sangria (wine, malibu juice...) and jules got red then we made the mistake of sharing the chocolate stack with rainbow sprinkles! So feeling well and truly sick we headed off to JD. Doors were at 7, we got there at 8 and he wasnt on til after 9. We got a good spot in front of the bar above steps so noone blocked our view and awaited his arrival. Warm up act Kat Dahlia from Miami was not very good but we made some friends behind us and danced the cupid shuffle, the 'wobble baby' song and some others before he came on stage!
He was awesome!!! Didnt so too many songs but all main ones and his dancing and dancers were amazing, plus he is HOT. He also DJ'd for a bit. He did Dont wana go home, Whatcha Say, Ridin Solo, In my head (fav), Other side (slow version), It girl, Other side (real version) and that might have been it!
We stayed and danced for 30 mins after, nice to have it so empty! There were little kids really going for it too, hahahaha. We got invited to go downtown Orlando to the club where JD was headed for afterparty but we declined and headed for a spot of shopping and princess dress trying on in downtown marketplace, then home, sleeeeeeep

Also,

MATT IS GOING TO BE HERE TOMORROW :D
and my family are now in the US, but Charleston right now, exciting!

PAC

So... I'm going to do a little parade explanation. We set up for parades and then 'breakdown' so that its looks as if we were never there. We watch out along the route for people attempting to run across or sit on trash cans etc, and also we work the fireworks and have to move thousands of people around. Some areas are notorious for getting blocked up in seconds with people trying to go different ways, and one bridge becomes one way only during parades which is a challenge. In training you learn about 7 positions out of a hundred or so, so its scary. We can work MISI, day parade, electrical parade at 9 and 11 and fireworks, and also flag retreat at 5pm. I get scheduled 6-12 shifts which covers the 9 and 11 EP and fireworks in between at 10. We set up, work it, breakdown, go to fireworks positions, have a 20 min break then do it all again! Then if there's time after we return abandoned strollers. We can be West (of the castle which is always North) which is frontierland/lib square, or South, main street. South starts at 615 and meeting is at 7 so we break first, and West is 630 meeting at 730! At the meeting we are assigned parade and firework positions, given news, reminders and a pep talk and they are generally a good laugh depending on which leaders are in. Then we set up. We have ropes with clips, stanchions (poles), plugs (that fill the hole where stanchions go and burn your fingers and have to be removed with a pen lid and watched carefully as they roll in the cart tracks or the drain!!) And carts that hold the equipment. We set up whichever ropes are in our area then chat to guests and answer qs til we hear the announcement and start clearing the street or sidewalk. Then at the escort we close the ropes, and then watch guests during parade. At Elliot the dragon we pre breakdown which means place plugs by stanchions and remove any ropes not holding guests back from the street, then at the parade end we breakdown, rolling ropes with the end of it. Its scary because if you get ropes tangled or not tied tight enough and you don't roll your rope in time guests start to climb over or duck under like idiots and its chaos. We also do crossings during the parade which is stressful and have to be timed well to allow guests across and stop them again. We get funky lightsticks for that and for directing guests to keep right or keep moving during fireworks. Overall its more stressful than PG as anything could happen but its a lot freer as we can walk around and chat to people!

Epcot

Last night I laid around while the rain subsided and ventured into MK for about 9. I got Casey's again (fries and cheese and corndog nuggets and coke YUM)

then I watched the fireworks and did space mountain at park close. That night we went to LPs cos his roommate was away for a slumber party!! Was me him Lesley and Cherie and we looked at his pin collections, made popcorn and watched my first ever episode of modern family where they go to disneyland!
Tuesday morning I wondered home in my despicable PJs to find the internet not working and jen jules and I headed to Epcot. So far we've been to Company D and now we've been waiting 90 mins in the Soarin queue! We have lunch booked in Mexico, hungry!!

Soarin' was fun, I do love it! Only 2 hours wait...! Then Mexico restaurant with jen, lovely! It had a Pirates disneyland paris blue lagoon atmosphere!! In front of then mexican boat ride. Food was tortillas and dip to start, shared a starter of tostadas and then chicken veg rice and creamy onion sauce!
Then we went on the mexican boat, and then Norway and got 'school bread', then some Werther's original caramel from Germany! Watched voices of liberty in America and then got the bus back.

I had a nap and wondered off to MK and met Hannah and we went for  Ghiradellis brownie sundae,
my first one, yummy, and made plans for our last week, and then went to see Turbo! Was good! I got my vanilla coke too :)

Park Greeter

So sunday I had picked up a shift before I had my proficiency's for PAC and therefore had my first Park Greeter (PG) shift in forever! Ive almost missed the ugly costume as the shorts/culottes have a lot more air flow than the PAC costume!

I got a slice of pizza at the Mouse (mousekateria) and then clocked in, I was put on the Vs (new turnstiles), which was slow and boring then suddenly a crazy storm hit, sideways rain, we were under shelter so though I wouldnt bother with raingear, and I got a wet bum and back!! And the rivers began to form around our feet, thank god for ugly workshoes as the guest relations girl with me had ballet pump=puddles in shoes!! The lightning was awesome!! Every few seconds over the lake and so much more visible than english lightning! Guests ran up to us soaking wet, one teenage girl ran up and had taken her top off and was just in a bandeau bikini, she was quite well endowed so you can imagine the sight as she ran up and the top was nearly too far down!!! Not very disney aha so that gave us a laugh. Had fun chatting with guest relations girl. She told me funniest dumb-guest story, they asked her friend; 'so where do you keep the dinosaurs' and the girl answered, you mean dinoland in animal kingdom? And they're like, no the real ones, I know you have them!! Haha the GR girl said to me if she'd been asked she would have replied "Maam, sure I rode my pterodactyl into work this morning, but that's not for you to see, that's mine" LOL.
Then I got my break, and saw the room where the parade dancers get ready, exciting stuff that I can't talk about! Then I got sweeping, and then buttons and I chatted to the monorail guy holding a new huge pinboard they have for guests to trade with on the way out!! Exciting! I found a few I liked on it. Then more Vs, and I was in the first queue from security which is obvs the one all dumb guests join, mental!!! So so busy, two lines for my one area all the way down to bag check in the end a coordinator came and helped with a handheld scanner!
Then I was on exits, then exit redirect when I found a PINK mickey hand to wave with. So MUCH FUN! Guests loved that it was pink and every kid I high fived looked so happy :)

We popped out to HoB after work but was bit lame so we left. This morning I shopped in the mall and now stuck on the bus home in crazy hard rain, but Harry Potter is on on the coach so I'd happily sit here all day!!
Jen heading to work in the rain
